Guess what I did today? I went to a castle! A real (sort of) castle! Such excitement. Much road trip. Which is why I’m posting a tad late today and why this post may be incoherent.
Over the past week or so since ROW80 ended, I’ve actually been able to get a lot done. By the end of tonight, I will have finished editing the first seven chapters of Queen of Hearts that I got back from my betas in June/July. Then its on to the rest of it. I’ve also started learning Swedish online.
Other things I did this week:
Replied to my nomination for the Liebster Award
Created a tumblr to document my conlangs (and I’m looking for blogs to follow as well!)
Now, once you’ve had a chance to look at these links, I’ll move onto today’s WIPpet. The following is from the motivational speech the Master at Arms gives Kara and her companions on their first day of training. (From chapter 10, for the month.) As always, thanks to K. L .Schwengel for hosting, you can find us here.
You think you know how to fight? Fine. I’ll let you continue your delusions for a while longer but you’re here to learn how to be warriors. By the time I’m finished with you, your bruises will have bruises and you’ll be begging me to face a highly disciplined Haelean army wearing only the armour which the gods, in their mercy, chose to give you at birth.
I went to a real (sort of ) castle once too! It was awesome. Ah the pain of living in a country that has only been settled by Europeans in the last 250 years. Good motivational speech! Last part made me chuckle 🙂
Haha glad you enjoyed it. And I have the same problem with finding castles so today’s was particularly exciting. 🙂
Ooooh! This bit doesn’t seem very motivational, but definitely useful!
I also sometimes don’t realise that there is a Wednesday every week. It usually catches me by surprise. Unpleasant surprise…
Glad you hear you’re making so much progress and learning so many new things! 😀
Thanks 🙂 And no, it’s not the most motivational, is it? 😛
Knowing Kara though, she probably needs to hear it 😛
Yes indeed 😛
I love it when Masters at Arms speechify like that. I love the last line about the armour they were given at birth. 😉
Hehe thanks 🙂
‘When I’m finished with you, your bruises will have bruises!’ Classic, I love it! I could see the Master of Arms pontificating clearly – it scared me a little 🙂
Haha I’m glad it had the desired affect 🙂
Ooh. I bet Kara is regretting being where she is about now. I’d wish her luck, but I have a feeling it wouldn’t do her any good.
ouch! bruises have bruises! been there, done that, it’s NOT fun. =P This is a good speech. I can’t imagine getting one myself and wanting to continue on in my day or week of training, but I imagine they’re useful.
“Your bruises will have bruises and you’ll be begging me to face a highly disciplined Haelean army wearing only the armour which the gods, in their mercy, chose to give you at birth.” This wins. Oh, man. I love it. At least one of the trainees is peeing themselves right about then. LOL!
Haha what an image! 😛
Great WIPpet – I love it! I want to know who’s speaking though, if it’s a man or a woman. I’ve missed a lot of your previous WIPpets, so I don’t know where we’re at in the story!
Ok, fair enough 🙂 In this case it is a man speaking.
I think I love this Master at Arms. 🙂 I’m sure Kara does as well. Okay, love may be a bit strong, I’m sure she appreciates him. And bruises on your bruises…ouch!
She certainly respects him! 😛
Yikes! This guy is either full of it or really means business. Either way…yikes.
I wanna know more about the castle!
I like your new goals. It’s easier to aim at targets you can see clearly!
Yay castle! What would you like to know? 🙂
Oh, nothing much…just, y’know…EVERYTHING!!!!
