Christmas is only a few days away and I’m baffled as to how the year has passed so quickly! Because of Christmas and my impending overseas adventures, this will be my last post for 2014.
This year has been eye-opening in many ways, both in my personal life and for my writing. At the beginning of the year, I had a redrafted manuscript (Queen of Hearts), a half completed and long abandoned manuscript (Rebellion Rising), a few thousand words without a proper plot to continue on (Enarenal) and a fear that I’d run out of ideas. Oh, and I hadn’t seen another of my works for months. The only copy was a some handwritten pages stapled together. So… Luckily, though, I found it in November. Since then, I’ve rewritten Queen of Hearts and sent it off to my lovely beta readers, worked through my road block on Rebellion Rising and worked out the plot of Enarenal. And as for ideas, well, they’re not a problem at the moment. 😛
As many of you will also know, I’ve spent a lot of time working on my own constructed languages, or conlangs. I’ve created three different languages to varying degrees of completion but all still require a lot of development. This has honestly been one of the best things I’ve done this year and has helped me confirm, among other things, what I want to do with my life.
I finished my second year of my Bachelor of Arts degree this year and although I continued to enjoy my Ancient History subjects, I absolutely loved my Linguistics subjects. Having the chance to study language in depth has both helped me with my own language learning and creation but also come to the realisation that, if I must have a day job, I’d want to be working in linguistics. It’s super nice to finally have some sense of focus and a specific goal to work towards and it’s nice to be able to visualise the future in more concrete terms.
I also want to say that thank you to all my lovely readers, fellow WIPpeteers and especially you, yes, you, for clicking on my posts, for reading the sometimes insane, incoherent offerings (anyone remember that time I thought I was a cat? No? Good.) and for your support and well wishes. You guys are the best. 🙂
I wish you all happiness and joy in the holiday season and for the New Year. See you in 2015!
And don’t forget, you can keep up with all my overseas adventures at my new travel blog.
