WIPpet Wednesday – 22.02.2017

wippet-wednesday-header

Welcome once again to WIPpet Wednesday, hosted by the lovely Emily Witt.

Today, as I’m actually working on my WIP at the moment in some semblance of a logical fashion, I have some new/reworked content to share with you.

It relates to the date only because it was put into its current form in the last week.

Context: Things are not going to plan for Kara in any way, shape or form. Eriden has to sneak from the castle where she is held by the singularly unpleasant Lord Thoren to meet with Kara in the forest to share food and news.

“Sorry I’m late,” Eriden apologised, setting the basket on the log beside Kara and pressing a still warm loaf into Kara’s hands. “Thoren’s doubled the patrols. I thought I’d never get out.” She looked up and saw the boy. Her eyes narrowed. “Who’s this?”

“Ildan,” Kara replied. “He brings a message from Bal Briad.”

Eriden looked Ildan up and down with sharp eyes, taking in the royal crest on his tunic and the crimson cloak draped around his shoulders. They came to rest on his muddied, damp knees. Eriden turned her gaze on Kara, taking in the eyes red with unshed tears, the inward curve of Kara’s shoulders, the heavy gold ring sized for a man’s hand listing sideways on Kara’s finger. “Thoren cannot know.”

I’d love to hear what you think in the comments below! 🙂

  1. Emily Witt says:

Ooh. I just sat here for a good while trying to work out what it is Thoren cannot know, presuming that the muddied knees and the unshed tears and the ring have something to do with it. So far I’m coming up with nothing (not unusual for me, I’m not good at clues). Is it bad news from Bal Briad? Or something more personal?
